About RCN Feminist Network

The RCN Feminist Network was established in January 2021 with the goal of attaining official forum status within The Royal College of Nursing. In its current form, the network is a scoping exercise to determine if such a forum is needed and what it might look like.

In order to determine relevance and impact, the project aims to run for at least a year. In this time, the team leading the project will collaborate with RCN members to determine a series of strategic aims in alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality. The following are our key areas of focus for women in nursing:

  1. Underrepresentation of women in leadership
  2. Barriers to professional and academic development
  3. Participation and visibility across all forms of media
  4. Sexual harassment and assault in the workplace
  5. Identifying and responding appropriately to signs of domestic violence in patients and colleagues or employees
  6. Identifying and responding appropriately to discrimination
  7. The intersection of the above with racism, transphobia, homophobia and ableism

Note: These may be amended as the project develops
