    Statement on Mandatory Vaccinations

    There has been much talk in the last few days about the decision by the government to make the Covid-19 vaccination compulsory for care workers. With 82 percent of care workers women1, the RCN Feminist Network felt it important to comment. Nursing is an evidence based profession and it is important we look at the evidence around mandating vaccines and the effectiveness of such a policy – or risk succumbing to populism. The link between mandatory vaccines and vaccine uptake remain ambiguous. An EU report into compulsory vaccinations and rates of coverage in Europe between 2007 and 2013 showed countries with mandatory vaccines had no higher coverage than those without2.…

    Tweetchat: The impact of the COVID19 pandemic upon women in nursing

    For International Nurses Day on May 12th, we’ll be hosting a tweetchat focussing on how the COVID19 pandemic has affected women in nursing. When: 12/05/2021 at 20:00 Where: Twitter via @FeministRCN Nursing Notes UK recently reported on a recent poll of 1,200 NHS staff from the NHS Confederation’s Health and Care Women Leaders Network, which showed a “significant rise in women working across health and care reporting a negative impact from their work on their mental and physical health.” The poll found that caring responsibilities have increased for women in particular, increased negative impact of work upon their mental and physical health and that they felt less safe discussing this with their managers.…
